ISLAMABAD: On Thursday, about a week since the National Coordination Committee decided to suspend all board exams in the aftermath of the Covid-19 crisis, federal education minister Shafqat Mahmood released the examination and promotion policy, meant to reduce student discontent.
Following an online Inter-Provincial Education Ministers Conference(IPEMC), the education minister announced the policy at a news conference. The Inter Board Committee Chairmen (IBCC) and the Federal Education Ministry formulated the policy after discussing it with 29 educational boards, which was then accepted by the IPEMC.
As per the policy, all students of class 10 and 12 would be declared passed based on their prior results i.e. if they have passed all of their subjects in 9th and 11th grade examinations. Such students will also receive a three-percentage-point increase to their overall grade, since statistics show that students of 12th and 10th grades consistently outperform students in 9th and 11th grades.
Shafqat Mahmood further said that all education ministers believe that educational facilities should be reopened as soon as possible after completion of vaccination in the education sector to avoid student’s educational losses.
