FAPUASA and public sector academic staff urge increased wages

PESHAWAR: The Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA)  and other staff unions of public institutions have the state pressured to strike if their wages will not be raised. 

On Sunday, Dr. Shah Alam, the chairman of the FAPUASA and other workers’ unions presided over a combined conference. The issues faced by academic staff were discussed at the conference.

The conference attendees raised the issue that costs of everyday products had risen dramatically while their wages have remained the same. They claimed to have raised the issue with the authorities several times, but for no benefit.

The concern was brought up before to the chairman and other council officials over a previous tour to Islamia College Peshawar, and he pledged to fix the situation. However, no action was taken to ease the worries of university employees.

They warned to go on a protest if the administration did not settle the situation.

Dr. Shah Alam stated, “We have already started contacts with associations of all the universities and a program would be devised for staging a sit-in in Islamabad soon,”
