Paper Presentation Tips for Federal Board Exams

We have been hearing this phrase since our childhood, “The first impression is the last impression”. It holds true for almost every situation, including your papers—especially if you are appearing on the federal board. The person who is checking your paper does not know you, neither has he/she seen you studying hard for your paper. All they can see is how you have attempted the exam; so, it has to be immaculate.

Giving the right answers is crucial for your grades, but paper presentation plays a role too.

Presentation tips you should use in the federal board exams:

  • Draw Margins

Use a blue marker to draw margins. Also, use only one color throughout the paper, which should be blue ideally. Moreover, underline the headings and subheadings as well. Draw a line after completing every question. Implementing these tips will produce a neat look from your paper and make it easier for the examiner to mark each question.

  • Give Headings and Subheadings

Give the main heading on the top center regarding whether it is a subjective type question or objective. Then write the question number—that should also be in the center. Now is the time to write your headings and subheadings.

Try to write all the headings and subheadings beforehand while leaving the required space for the answer. Doing that will save you the time used in switching from pen to marker again and again. It will also help maintain a flow in the paper as well as retaining information.

  • Use Marker to Write Important Information

Highlight important names, dates, terms, definitions, formulas, verses, or couplets by writing with a marker. It will let the examiner know that you have written all the necessary information with its due importance.

It will also allow the examiner to assess the paper more effectively. If you feel you would not have enough time to highlight every definition, just underline it with a marker.

  • Draw Diagrams and Tables

Include the pictographic content in your paper as much as you can. That is the key to attempting papers of the federal board. Draw as many diagrams, flowcharts, and tables, etc. as you can. It will make your paper more organized and easier for the examiner to check.

Try to draw the diagrams and tables with a point-marker. However, some students are not very handy with a marker, given its sensitive point and fluid ink. If that is the case with you, you can substitute it with a ball pen instead.

  • Attempt Strategically

Attempt the question you have prepared well first, but do a quick check every question before you start. Many students do not find enough time for the last questions and end up writing distorted information in poor structure and writing form.

Be mindful of every questions’ weightage. Allocate time to each question as per its value. Some questions may not be lengthy, but they may require more time and have more weightage. For instance, a 15-marks translation question only requires 4-5 lines to be written but involves a lot more effort.

  • Use Proper Grammar and Spellings

There is a misconception among many students that grammar rules and punctuation do not count in subjects other than English. If your medium of communication is English, you have to implement the rules to the best.

Just as students in the Urdu medium cannot get away with writing in poor language or wrong syntax, the English medium students do not enjoy any exceptions. Your paper should be comprehendible, with a smooth flow—regardless of whether it is English or Urdu.

  • Avoid Scribbling Over or Cutting the Words

Most importantly, avoid overwriting. If you need to cut a word or a phrase (try keeping this need minimal), put brackets aside the word or phrase and a small cross above each bracket. Scratching or overwriting not only makes your paper rough but also highlights that you have made mistakes.  Using the aforementioned technique will make your mistakes less noticeable to penalize.
