The decision has been taken by the Sindh health and education department to start Covid-19 vaccination campaign in educational institutes from September 6. The goal is to vaccinate 1,400,200 students of Grade 9 to 12 and 2,527 teams of the provincial health department will take part in the COVID-19 vaccination campaign to help meet the goal.
A meeting was headed by Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Fazal Pechuho and Education Minister Syed Sardar Shah on Monday. Parliamentary Health Secretary Qasim Soomro, Health Secretary Kazim Jatoi, Education Secretary Akbar Leghari and other officials also attended the meeting virtually.
The immunisation campaign will proceed in phases. In the first phase, the vaccine campaign would be stretched to a sub -division level by starting off with the vaccinations of students at the district level.
It was also decided in the meeting that consent would be taken from parents and they will be guaranteed security of their children by the school administration.
The provisional health minister stated that during such hard times when the world is going through a pandemic it would be preferable to vaccinate the students for the smooth continuation of education and for the well being of students. He also mentioned that the arrangement of Covid-19 vaccines in schools and colleges is the responsibility of the health department. He added that “Registration should also be ensured once the vaccine is completed.” the provincial health minister said.
Schools all around Sindh resumed educational activities on Monday according to the instructions by the provincial School Education and Literacy Department. As per the notification, schools are to remain open six days a week, with 50 percent attendance of students on alternate days.
