What is the First Law of Physics?

When 9th class students take their first physics class, they are introduced to some fundamental laws of physics. These laws govern the way that we understand the universe, and are central to the entire subject.

One of the first laws of physics that students will learn is Newton’s Laws of Motion. Students who are able to learn the Laws of Motion effectively will be able to gain a strong understanding of the rest of the subject and perform well on the final exams.

What are Newton’s Laws of Motion?

Newton’s laws of motion are three physical laws that, together, laid the foundation for classical mechanics. They describe the relationship between a body and the forces acting upon it, and its motion in response to those forces.

These are the basic laws of physics that all 9th class students will learn. Several questions on the final exams can be related to these laws. Therefore, it is important for students to not only memorize the laws, but also to understand it conceptually and gain practical knowledge with the help of book notes, Abbottabad Board solved past papers, and other study resources.

Newton’s 1st Law of Motion

“An object at rest remains at rest, or if in motion, remains in motion at a constant velocity unless acted on by a net external force.”

This is commonly also referred to as the Law of Inertia. If an object is at rest, it will remain at rest, until it is acted upon by a force. Similarly, if the object is moving at a constant speed in a straight line, it will continue to keep moving in a straight line at constant speed unless it is acted upon by a force.

Newton’s 2nd Law of Motion

“The acceleration of an object as produced by a net force is directly proportional to the magnitude of the net force, in the same direction as the net force, and inversely proportional to the mass of the object.”

Newton’s 3rd Law of Motion

“If an object A exerts a force on object B, then object B must exert a force of equal magnitude and opposite direction back on object A.”

These are the three laws of motion, which together make up the first important law of physics that 9th class students must learn.
