About Pakistan Institute of Development Economics

The Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) is located at the Quaid-i-Azam University Campus in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan, however it has its own board of overseers. The Pakistan Institute of Development Economics is a Higher Education Commission (HEC) recognized higher education institution that enjoys significant rankings in the area of economics. In fact, PIDE was ranked by Re Pec as top Economics University in Pakistan and 10th best Economics University in Asia.

 

Moreover, PIDE was ranked as the top small university in Pakistan by HEC of Pakistan in 2015.

The Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) offers 4 distinct departments. Each department offers postgraduate programs including Master’s degrees, MPhil degrees, and doctorate degrees.

How to Get Admission in PIDE

PIDE is a postgraduate research institution. This means that admissions are open to students who have completed an undergraduate degree, which is typically a four-year or three-year program. Students who are interested in getting admission into PIDE can do so by applying for the fall semester, which commences in September each year. Admissions open in July of each year. 

 

Apply for Admission

Students who are interested in applying for admission in PIDE after the completion of their undergraduate degree can do so by completing the application form with accurate and up to date information. The application form is available online at the official PIDE website.

 

Along with the application form, students must also submit a deposit of Rs. 2,000/- on prescribed challan form in Habib Bank Limited Account No. 02940010862301 through cash/online transfer. For each additional program Rs. 1000/- additional amount may be deposited. In service applicants are required to submit NOC issued by their employer before the start of academic session.

 

Entry Test

Students must then appear for an entry test, for which PIDE will issue an exam seating slip. The past papers and sample papers for effective exam preparation are available on the official PIDE website for students to utilize. 

 

Eligibility Criteria

For students applying for an MS or MPhil program, the eligibility criteria is sixteen years education i.e. 4 years Bachelors degree or its equivalent (MA/MSc degree after a two years Bachelors degree) in any discipline from an HEC recognized university or institute with at least a CGPA of 2.50 out of 4.00 (semester system) or at least a second division

 

For PhD students, the eligibility criteria is candidates who possess MPhil or equivalent degree with Research in any discipline from an HEC recognized university/institution with at least first division (annual system) or CGPA of 3.00 out of 4.00 (semester system). 

 

Therefore, students must have a strong academic background throughout their intermediate final exams and undergraduate program. Intermediate students who dream of attaining a degree from PIDE must focus on scoring well on the 12th class final exams and maintaining a good CGPA throughout their undergraduate program.
