4 Innovative Methods of Teaching

In a classroom, the main goal of a teacher is to promote effective learning through student engagement. And the attention of students, especially when they’re in high school, is almost impossible to keep.

As educational technology develops rapidly, more and more strategies and tools for learning make appearances in education. Aside from educational technology, new research and studies show that students tend to pay more attention to a class that steps a little outside of the traditional learning box.

How can teachers capture the interest of students?

Research shows that incorporating various learning methods and trying new teaching strategies according to the learning styles of students actually do improve learning and knowledge retention.

Here are 3 innovative teaching methods that will help teachers improve student engagement:-

  • Classroom technology

In order to create student engagement, using technology like tablets, computers, and digital cameras is a successful method. Multimedia projects develop the interest of students and, thus, promote effective learning.
Projects like these could include researching topics and creating multimedia presentations. This allows students to explore and study their course material on their own, which helps them solve problems and promotes independent learning.
This also lets students develop excellent tech-skills, which can be highly useful for them in the future.

  • Crossover learning

Crossover learning is learning in an informal or non-traditional environment such as on a field trip. Museums, after-school clubs, and other similar places can improve student engagement. Being in an unusual learning environment makes students accept more information as they make connections to their educational material. These connections lead to better retention of knowledge. An increase in confidence, curiosity, and interest is what leads to effective learning. Many education systems include the concept of field trips, and this can be used innovatively to help students learn.
A method would be for a teacher to assign a project to students, or simply ask a question, and the students will collect information when they are on the field trip or museum trip. They will, then, present their findings to the teacher at the end of the trip.

  • Audiovisual aids

Incorporating various audio-visual elements ranging from graph Many students have learning styles that are different from traditional methods. Using audio and video tools will not only facilitate students with such learning styles but will also create an environment of engagement and interest with everyone in the class. Using videos to teach will help students learn better, as their minds latch onto any unique teaching strategy.

  • Active learning

Engaging students in a classroom discussion or debate will encourage them to openly discuss ideas. This will not only promote learning, but it will also allow the teacher to see how and what the students are learning from the classes. Collaborative problem solving lets students apply the material they have learned in a real-world setting. These active learning strategies will get the students engaging, sharing ideas, thinking, and working with each other.

Aside from these four innovative teaching methods, there are other strategies that teachers can incorporate, with the help of modern educational technology, to basically solidify student learning.
