Education in Pakistan is organized by the Ministry of Education. The national framework of the curriculum is regulated by the Curriculum Wing within the ministry.
Education in Pakistan is generally organized in a 5+3+2+2 model:
- Primary education from class 1 to class 5
- Middle education from class 6 to class 8
- Secondary education from class 9 to class 10
- Higher secondary, or intermediate, education from class 11 to 12
Secondary and Higher Secondary (Matric and Intermediate) education in Pakistan are controlled by the Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC). There are 26 boards of intermediate and secondary education in Pakistan. There is one federal board and the rest are provincial. They hold the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) exams, and three boards are responsible for vocational and technical education.
