The Branches of Biology in Intermediate Classes

A lot of students are passionate about certain subjects in their curriculum. Many enjoy English, while others are highly knowledgeable about math. There are also those who are deeply interested in science subjects, such as chemistry and biology.

Matric (9th class and 10th class) students, for the first time, study the branches of science as independent subjects. Their general science textbooks are replaced with separate textbooks for physics, chemistry, and biology. This causes them to feel excited. And those who are passionate about science are especially enthusiastic about finally getting to explore concepts in greater depth.

Students expect to study more in-depth subjects after they finish 10th class. However, they soon realize that they won’t be studying further branches of physics and chemistry.

The only subject that’s going to be further branched is biology.

What are the Branches of Biology you’ll study in Intermediate?

Biology is a stream in matric which becomes pre-medical in intermediate. Pre-med students have to study four compulsory subjects: English, Urdu, Islamiyat, and Pakistan Studies. These subjects are also in the program of pre-engineering students, which is why they’re labeled ‘compulsory’.

The optional subjects in pre-medical are physics, chemistry, and the two branches of biology which have one exam.

The branches of biology that pre-medical students study in FSc intermediate are:

  1. Zoology
  2. Botany

What is Zoology?

The word zoology was made from the Greek word zoo, meaning animal, and logos, meaning knowledge or to know. Zoology is the branch of biology that studies animals. This includes the anatomy, classification, embryology, evolution, and habits of both living and extinct animals.

Students who love animals will thoroughly enjoy this subject. And those who want to pursue a career in veterinary biology will be able to greatly benefit from the local boards’ intermediate curriculum for biology. The practical syllabus, in particular, is very in-depth.

What is Botany?

Also called plant science or plant biology, botany is the study of plants. The word “botany” comes from the Greek word “botane” which means grass, or to graze. Botany also includes the study of fungi and algae. This branch of biology originates from the pre-historic field of herbalism. Although, the modern botany is actually much different from is predecessor.

The students who enjoy learning more about plants will thoroughly enjoy themselves in intermediate. If you were one of the students whose eyes lit up as soon as the topic “photosynthesis” came up in primary classes, this subject will satisfy your curiosity.

Preparing For your Intermediate Biology Exams

Both zoology and botany are fascinating fields of study, with fun experiments and practical studies. For careers in the different branches of biology, the intermediate syllabus for these two subjects is certainly going to help you throughout life.

It’s widely believed that the FSc intermediate curriculum is much harder than the one in matric. Even if you love the subjects that you’ll be studying these two years, you need to make sure that you’re fully prepared.

Here’s how you can prepare for your intermediate biology exam:

  • Pay attention to your lectures.

Make sure that you take lots of detailed notes and ask questions if you have any confusions.

  • Try to find what you study in your surroundings.

This will cement your syllabus in your memory.

  • Use solved past papers for biology, in both 11th class and 12th class.

Besides, it’s hard for students to get used to the changes from matric to intermediate in 11th class. Using unsolved or solved past papers will help you settle down quickly. And, since the 12th class is your final step, you need to make sure that your preparations are perfect.

It doesn’t matter if you’re using unsolved or solved past papers, as long as you study hard and know how to find answers independently. The more you’re interested in what you’re studying, the better.
