Different Study Options with Online Learning

e-Learning, also known as electronic or online learning, has greatly enhanced our ability to learn without boundaries or restrictions. In simple words, e-learning refers to accessing educational content outside of a traditional classroom, through the use of technology.

e-Learning offers many benefits and a world of studying possibilities, due to its flexibility, portability, convenience, and wide range of study tools and methods. Whether you prefer to learn through two-way communication, or if you would rather study on your own, there is a suitable e-learning option for you. Here are some common e-learning study options:

Virtual Classrooms

Just like the name suggests, a virtual classroom is an online classroom where students and teachers are able to communicate and interact with one another. A virtual classroom often includes tools such as an online whiteboard, video and presentation viewing, and even screen sharing, in order to make learning and collaboration much easier. Virtual classrooms can be used to discuss other e-learning study materials such as solved past papers and online lectures.

Online Lectures

An online lecture is a great e-learning study method for those who prefer being taught through instruction. Online lectures allow for a traditional lecture-based learning format, without the restriction of being tied to one classroom. In this method, an instructor delivers a lecture in real-time, through a video-based medium. Students are able to attend the lecture through their laptops, desktop computers, or other electronic devices.

Video Tutorials

Unlike online lectures, video tutorials are pre-recorded instructional videos, which students can access, view, pause, rewind, and replay as often as they need. This is an effective method of exam preparation and learning for students who prefer to revise and revisit concepts at their own pace. Video tutorials are readily available for students to watch at any time, so it removes time and place restrictions, and allows students to be in complete control of their exam preparation.

Self-Study Materials

Self-study is an e-learning study method that provides students with the resources that they require in order to learn on their own, without any instruction. This could include reading passages, book notes, solved past papers, case studies, and other exam preparation resources. Some self-study platforms include a discussion room, or help section, where students can ask questions when they are confused. Self-study options such as solved past papers and book notes can be repeatedly accessed, in order to allow students to learn at their own pace and control their own exam preparation.

Podcasts

This is a great e-learning study method for auditory learners. Podcasts are audio lectures that students can listen to. Just like video tutorials, podcasts can be paused, rewinded, and replayed as much as the student requires for effective self-study and exam preparation. However, unlike video tutorials, there is no visual element in podcasts, as it is solely audio-based. Students can easily listen to podcasts from their mobile phones from any place.

Articles

Articles are a similar study method to other self-study options, such as solved past papers and book notes. Students are expected to read articles, which can vary in length, for understanding a topic and exam preparation. Articles are useful when combined with note-taking and other study methods, as it can be an effective exam preparation and learning aid.

Clearly, there is a wide range of study methods and options through e-learning. Whether you are attending a distance learning program, or would simply like to take advantage of the many online exam preparation resources, you can surely find a suitable e-learning study method for yourself!
