Making A Timetable For Exams And Sticking To It

When developing a study strategy for upcoming exams, it is very important to create a timetable that will give you the best utilization of your time. It can be tough to create a timetable that actually works for you, and even more difficult to follow through with the schedule every day. So, we have provided some tips that will help you make the most out of your exam preparation schedule.

Create A Mindset

You will be unlikely to follow any timetable if you are not motivated. Thus, before you create a study schedule, get yourself into the right mindset. This means setting a study objective that you are motivated to achieve. Also remind yourself of why it is important to create the timetable, and how it can help you score well in your final exams.

Coordinate With Other Responsibilities

Once you have established your exam preparation objective, the next step is to create a timetable that coordinates with your other responsibilities. Your study schedule should work around school timings, job timings, or any other daily obligation you may have. Creating an overlapping timetable will make it difficult for you to follow through on your study schedule. For example, if you have school in the mornings, then you will not be able to prepare for your exams during that time. Thus, you must set your study timings during off-school hours. This will ensure your responsibilities do not become an excuse for not following your exam preparation schedule.

Be Realistic

Be true to yourself and your ability to study. Do not set unrealistic and unachievable timings for yourself. For example, it is unrealistic to study for 10 hours each day. Not only will it overwork you if you try to study for this long, but you will also become extremely demotivated when you are unable to achieve this. Instead, set your study hours to an achievable number (i.e. one hour for each subject per day). However, be sure that you work efficiently during your study hours. In other words, go for quality over quantity.

Avoid Distractions

In order to make sure that you fully utilize the time allocated for studying in your schedule, make it a point to stay away from all types of distractions. Find a quiet and comfortable place to study, and ask your family and friends to respect your need for peace during that time. Furthermore, power off your mobile phone and other electronic devices, stay away from the television and avoid sitting in front of a distracting window. After you have put away all the obvious distractions, then buckle down and focus on your studies. Avoid creating unnecessary distractions for yourself, such as too many bathroom breaks or kitchen runs.

Take Breaks

Allow yourself short breaks in between your timetable. This will help refresh your mind and prevent you from becoming overworked. Going for a quick walk or any other aerobic exercise during your break can greatly enhance your concentration for when you sit back down to learn. You can also have a healthy snack during this time, such as fresh fruits or nuts, which will give you a boost of energy to help you stay alert and attentive for your exam preparation. However, make sure that work efficiently during your designated study timings so that you actually deserve the break. This will increase your productivity.

Implementing these tips will undoubtedly help you make the most out of your exam preparation schedule. Sticking to your schedule is necessary in order to actually derive productivity from your timetable, so be sure to follow these tips!
